2001-Current Isuzu Crosswind

The Good: Engine, chassis, and everything else is durable.

The Bad: Ride and handling is not great, plus the interior in later models can be a dirt magnet

The Say: An economical and reliable pick but refinement is a thumbs down.

Car Choices:
As long as the engine of choice is a diesel, you visited the right place. While the engine is a 2.5 diesel, prior to 2007, manual variants have 81hp which is a normally aspirated one while automatic models gain 85hp thanks to a turbo. 2007 and later models had a hp rating of 85. Choosing the transmission? Go with the manual to extract the meager power available since the automatic is very slow. It is good at a standstill but once things go at a pace, it loses stream. Speed freaks need not apply here.

There are numerous variants that encompass every buyers requirement. Going to the bottom of the Crosswind chain is the XL which has steel rims, CD player (a cassette deck was standard in earlier models), vinyl seats, and a seating capacity of 10. XT models gain alloy rims, power windows (prior to 2005, this option was absent), tachometer, fabric seats, and roof rails (2002-2004 models does not have this one). Only available between 2001-2002, the XTO adds a rear wiper, fog lamps in front, power windows, power door locks, and power windows. Sold from 2007-2012, XTi models adds chrome bits, power folding mirrors, and this variant can only seat seven people. XTRM variants (available from 2002-2004) gives you body cladding, meatier looking rims, keyless entry system, and leatherette and moquette seats. XUV (which is the most common model, and what we pick) comes with power amenities, spare tire cover (only made standard in 2005), parking sensors, and other amenities that are available in the lower models. The XUVi, sold between 2002-2006, adds what the XUV has but gains a VCD player and two wireless microphones; not worthy of the money. Made available in 2005, Sportivo models adds a monitor good for backing up, leather upholstery, LCD monitors, DVD system, and in 2011, it is GPS ready. There are numerous special edition models including those dubbed as the X-Max. Sportivos can only accommodate seven people, due to the front facing third row.
